The Human Rights Organization (HRNA) released a report on the health condition of Kurdish political prisoner Zeynab Jalalian, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Yazd Prison in Iran.
The report underlined that Jalalian is the only woman political prisoner in Iran to have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Iranian state, and stated that despite suffering from eye, kidney, and stomach disorders, her health continues to deteriorate as she is denied necessary and regular medical supervision.
The report also stated that Zeynab Jalalian’s eye, kidney, and stomach conditions have been deteriorating for a long time, yet the authorities at Yazd Prison have failed to provide the necessary conditions for her treatment.
It was noted that Jalalian underwent surgery last month at a hospital in the city of Yazd but was returned to prison only two days after the operation. The report further revealed that she was shackled during the surgery.
In 2008, Zeynab Jalalian was sentenced to death on charges of “attempting to act against national security and waging war against God.” However, the Iranian Court of Appeal later reduced her death sentence to life imprisonment. Jalalian, who has been held captive by the Iranian regime for 17 years, is the only woman political prisoner in Iran to have been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.
