A team of lawyers from the Istanbul-based Asrın Law Office set off on Monday for the prison island of Imrali to visit their client Abdullah Öcalan. The founder of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has been held in solitary confinement on the island in the Sea of Marmara since 1999.
According to Asrın, the team includes lawyers Mazlum Dinç, Rezan Sarıca, Suzan Akipa, and Emran Emekçi. The Asrin Law Office exclusively represents Abdullah Öcalan and the other prisoners on Imrali in all legal matters.
The last confirmed meeting between Öcalan and his lawyers took place on September 15. It was the first meeting with his lawyers after several years of contact being blocked. Previously, there had been a meeting on August 7, 2019. A statement on the content of today’s visit will reportedly be made in the coming days.
