YRK announces the death of a guerrilla fighter in attack by Iranian forces

The Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) Press and Publication Center released a written statement announcing the martyrdom of a fighter in an attack carried out by Iranian intelligence units and Revolutionary Guards in the city of Marivan on September 23, 2025.

According to the statement, YRK fighter Azad Zagros was on his way back from Marivan to South Kurdistan for medical treatment when Iranian intelligence units and Revolutionary Guards opened fire on the car he was traveling in, killing him and an unidentified person.

The statement noted that martyr Azad Zagros was from the district of Chamchamal in the city of Sulaymaniyah in South Kurdistan, had been serving in East Kurdistan for some time, and was returning to South Kurdistan for medical treatment due to health issues.

YRK stated that the Iranian regime had not made any statement regarding the incident and was attempting to cover up the attack, stating: “Such executions constitute mass murder and war crimes. This is an immoral conspiracy.”

The YRK expressed its condolences to Zagros’ family, the Berzencî tribe, and all the people of Kurdistan, adding: “We reiterate our promise and commitment to the martyr Azad Zagros. We will continue our struggle until Kurdistan is liberated, until the requirements of the peace and democratic society process are met, and until the dreams of all martyrs are realized.”
