The Democratic Institutions Platform made a statement regarding the march to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on the anniversary of the international conspiracy ( the day in which Abdullah Öcalan was abducted in Kenya) that began with the expulsion of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan from Syria on October 9, 1998.
During the press conference held at the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Amed Provincial Office, a banner reading “Bi rebertiya azad ber bi civaka azad” (“With a Free Leadership (Abdullah Öcalan) Toward a Free Society”) was displayed.
Abbas Şahin, Co-Chair of the DEM Party Amed Provincial Organization, said: “The Kurdish people have already proven their existence. Twenty-six years ago, the Kurdish People’s Leader Öcalan was brought to Imrali through a conspiracy. For 26 years, an unprecedented isolation has been imposed there. Through this conspiracy, they sought to prevent the establishment of a democratic system in the Middle East and to block the democratic solution to the Kurdish question. However, instead of severing Abdullah Öcalan’s bond with the people through isolation, it only strengthened it further. The call made by Mr. Öcalan on February 27 was of great significance. Conditions must be created for Mr. Öcalan to fulfill his role and mission. On October 9, at 16:30, we will hold a march under the slogan ‘With a Free Leadership Toward a Free Society’ at Sheikh Said Square (Dağkapı Square). We invite all our people to join the march.”
Call for participation in the march
Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Gülistan Sarılı said: “We will hold a march against the conspiracy on October 9 at Sheikh Said Square. Our march will continue to Balıkçılarbaşı. We call on our people to join this march, women, young people, and the elderly alike. Let us be in the streets for a democratic life and for the freedom of the prisoners.”
