Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Group Deputy Chair of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), commented on the remarks of Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş who said earlier today that a meeting between the parliamentary commission and Abdullah Öcalan, who is incarcerated in İmralı Island Prison, is not on the agenda at this stage.
Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit said, “The path to dialogue also lies in the inclusion of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan in the process. The main actor in this process is Mr. Öcalan, and for a lasting, honorable peace to be achieved, direct contact with Imrali must be established and the commission must be part of this process. Securing social consent will only be possible through the involvement of the actor who initiated the process and has the will to sustain it, not just the parties. Ultimately, the Commission is not just an ordinary expertise commission; it has the potential to be a historic turning point. Beyond preparing reports, it is also expected to outline the legal framework of the process and clarify the roadmap.”
