Solidarity event with Öcalan and the Kurdish people in Sao Paulo

Activists from various social movements, women’s organizations, and students gathered at Casa Capri in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Discussions were held on the situation of Abdullah Öcalan incarcerate in İmralı Island Prison, developments in the Middle East, and the struggle of the Kurdish people.

The event featured discussions on the historical resistance of the Kurdish people and their experience in building Democratic Confederalism. Activists from different organizations emphasized that Öcalan’s ideas and the Rojava revolution were a source of inspiration for social movements in Abya Yala. They stated that the struggle of Kurdish women was a guide in building social organization against capitalism and patriarchy, and explained Öcalan’s paradigm.

Sharing the experiences and ideas of the struggles in Sao Paulo and the resistance in the Abya Yala lands, activists stated that the unity of the peoples and alliances that transcend nation-state borders would strengthen the internationalist struggle.

Condemning the attacks against the peoples in the Middle East, the activists remarked that the steps taken by the Kurdistan Freedom Movement for peace and a democratic society received worldwide support.

Participants concluded the event by calling for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and all Kurdish political prisoners with the following message: “From Sao Paulo: Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and all Kurdish political prisoners!”
