TEV-DEM: Those who kill women and children cannot build a new Syria

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, armed forces of the Syrian transitional government bombed the village of Umm Tina in the town of in Deir Hafer. Eight civilians, including women and children, were killed in the bombing, and three people were injured.

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) condemned the massacre, saying: “On the night of September 20, 2025, groups affiliated with the Syrian transitional government and groups supported by the Turkish state carried out a brutal massacre against civilians in the village of Umm Tina, near Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo. The groups targeted the homes of the village residents with drones and long-range artillery. Eight people, including children and women, were killed, and three others were injured. Although the village is located in areas under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the parties responsible for the massacre blamed the SDF after the bombardment.”

The statement continued: “We were not surprised by these groups’ massacres against civilians. Similar massacres were carried out against Alawites and Druze, in Afrin, Girê Spî, and Serekaniyê. Churches were blown up. These groups have once again proven that they will do anything to impose their radical ideology and agenda on the Syrian people and the world.”

TEV-DEM emphasized that the foundation of the SDF is “to protect all its components, to liberate the people of North and East Syria and the world from terrorism,” and called on the international community and relevant institutions to hold accountable those responsible for the massacres committed against the Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac peoples.

The statement concluded, “Those who kill children, women, and civilians, targets buildings, and threatens the people cannot build a new Syria; they would just establish another dictatorship, oppress, and exclude.”
