Abdullah Öcalan, jailed in İmralı Island Prison in Turkey, has recently sent a letter to sheikhs and tribal leaders in the regions of Cizre, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Tabqa. The Kurdish leader highlighted the importance of Kurdish-Arab unity and emphasized the role of the tribes in establishing a “democratic, united, and just Syria.”
The Joint Delegation of the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Initiative and the Council of Opinion Leaders continues to deliver Öcalan’s letter to the leaders and sheikhs of Arab tribes in North and East Syria. The delegation recently visited the rural areas of Dêrik, Çilaxa, and Girkê Legê. The delegation included members of the Freedom Initiative and the Council of Opinion Leaders, as well as the opinion leader of the Zubeyde tribe, representatives of the Benî Seba and Boasî tribes, Fewaz Ebdulhafiz El Bazo, the sheikh of the Tey tribe, Hesen Ferhan, and prominent figures from the Bosheban and Sherabin tribes.
Tribal representatives enthusiastically welcomed the delegation and Abdullah Öcalan’s letter. The tribes expressed their position, saying, “The Leader’s letter is a call for peace, brotherhood, and love among peoples.”
Tribal representatives stated, “Our fate is shared and inseparable. Shared life is the way to overcome all difficulties.”
Tribal representatives also drew attention to Abdullah Öcalan’s vision of democracy, freedom, and brotherhood, calling for the implementation of the letter’s content. Warning against discord and provocation, the tribes reiterated their allegiance to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which, they said, is a military, political, and social force that defends the people of North and East Syria.
The delegation visited around 30 tribes in the Cizre region. During the meetings, it was stressed that the bridges of coexistence between the different components in the region had been further strengthened.
