Mexican women’s action for Abdullah Öcalan

Within the framework of the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan campaign, the 35 Mexican women, who had previously organized several events, launched a new initiative. Each participant wrote down her feelings and thoughts about Abdullah Öcalan. Then the various writings were woven together into a collective poem.

The women also launched an email campaign that kicked off on Monday at noon. They sent the petition through the communication channels of the movements they belong to.

The joint poem and petition are being sent to the Turkish Embassy in Mexico, the Council of Europe, and Turkey’s Ministry of Justice.

The campaign aims to expand through participation from different circles until this evening.

Three of the women read the prepared poem aloud and shared it in a video. Due to the time difference with Europe, the action will conclude on the morning of Wednesday 17 September.

The petition sent to the official institutions reads as follows:

“From the land known as Mexico.

15 September 2025

To the attention of Council of Europe President António Costa and Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç,

As Struggling Women from Mexico, we are writing to demand that the Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan, be granted the right to hope and therefore be released.

We express our support for the Kurdish people’s struggle for self-determination, and through a poem we collectively wrote for the international campaign for Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom, so that he may participate in the search for a political and just solution for his people, we send you our voice.”
