The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) held a comprehensive meeting in Hesekê. The meeting, attended by MSD co-chairs, representatives of political parties from North and East Syria, opened with a moment of silence.
In her speech, MSD Co-Chair Leyla Qereman emphasized that the meeting took place at a historic moment for Syria and the region.
“The transitional government failed to fulfill its political, military, and constitutional duties, distanced itself from the people’s demands, and increased despair,” she underlined.
Leyla Qereman stated that a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized roadmap must be established for Syria’s future.
The MSD Co-Chair said that their goals are to strengthen internal stability, reestablish national confidence, and develop projects that serve people’s lives.
Leyla Qereman said, “The great sacrifices made by our people impose a moral responsibility on us,” adding: “This responsibility is to determine a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized path that will enable Syria to transform into a peaceful state that embraces all its peoples by preserving its national, religious, and cultural diversity.”
“Today we are facing a historic opportunity,” Leyla Qereman continued, saying: “The road may be long and difficult, but we believe that we will ensure Syria’s security with determination, unity, and solidarity. Our goal is to build a united, democratic, pluralistic Syria based on justice and equality, one that respects the rights of all citizens without discrimination and is decentralized.”
The meeting is expected to conclude with a declaration.
