Israel bombs areas around Homs and Latakia

According to Sana, the agency tied to the interim government in Damascus, Israel bombed areas around Homs and Latakia.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that “the Israeli strike near Homs targeted a military unit south of the city.”

Israel did not claim responsibility for the attack, but Defense Minister Israel Katz had previously said that Israeli forces conduct operations “day and night” wherever necessary for the country’s security.

Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 and HTS’s rise to power in Damascus, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syria while also initiating a dialogue process with Damascus.

At the beginning of September, Sana reported that Israeli soldiers captured seven people during an “infiltration” operation in southern Syria.

After Assad’s fall, the Israeli army entered the demilitarized buffer zone of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel.

The Israeli army regularly conducts raids in southern Syria and has units stationed in the area.

Syria and Israel have been officially at war since 1948. However, they are holding negotiations mediated by the United States in an effort to reduce tensions.
