Journalist Hêmin Mamend, who was attacked by two masked gunmen on a motorcycle in Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî), spoke to Rojnews about the incident.
Mamend said that on the day of the attack he had participated in a program on Stêrk TV and later joined his friends at the Azadbûn Association for a Kurmancî language class. He explained that after dinner, when he got into his car, two masked men on a motorcycle blocked his way and opened fire.
Mamend said, “I knew I had been followed for a long time and I had informed the security units. The attack was planned, they came to kill me.” . He added that a bullet fragment still remains in his body and that he will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Mamend underlined that he will continue his work within the Free Press: “Let the entire people of Kurdistan and the enemies know that I am stronger than before. I will work within the Free Press with higher morale.”
Hêmin Mamend also thanked media institutions in Sulaymaniyah for their support, calling on them not to let the attack be covered up and demanding that the perpetrators be caught and brought to justice.
