Who carried out the drone attack near Aleppo Airport?

An unmanned aerial vehicle targeted a car on the road leading to Aleppo International Airport on Thursday. A Damascus security official speaking to AFP said two people were killed as a result of the attack.

ANHA reported that those killed in the drone attack were Abu Faruq al-Igori, a member of the Turkistan Islamic Party, and Abu Selame, a leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), affiliated with the Damascus regime, also confirmed that a drone attack had taken place.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) claimed that the attack was carried out by the US-led international coalition.

Recently, both Israel and the International Coalition have been conducting drone strikes against mercenary groups in Syria.

On August 19, U.S. Central Command forces conducted a successful raid in northern Syria, killing a senior ISIS member and key financier who planned attacks in Syria and Iraq. According to CENTCOM, the ISIS member had relationships throughout the ISIS network in the region, posing a direct threat to U.S. and Coalition forces and the new Syrian Government.

In July, the CENTCOM forces carried out a similar operation in al-Bab, resulting in the death of senior ISIS Leader, Dhiya’ Zawba Muslih al-Hardani, and his two adult ISIS-affiliated sons, Abdallah Dhiya al-Hardani and Abd al-Rahman Dhiya Zawba al-Hardani.

U.S. forces killed the group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in the village of Barisha in Idlib in 2019, and his successor, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Quraishi, in Atme in 2022.
