Mehmet Emin Vural, an ill prisoner who was sent from Adana F Type Prison to Istanbul Metris R Type Prison in April 2025 for treatment, told his family that he was constantly tortured by guards and that bruises had formed on his feet and hips. Vural was arrested in 2016 on the allegation of “being a member of an organization.” He told about the torture he endured during a phone call with his family.
In the conversation, Vural said that he had not received any medical treatment for months in Metris R Type Prison. He emphasized that he had been kept alone for a week, that he had gone on a hunger strike because he was denied food, and that despite being seriously ill, his living conditions were becoming increasingly unbearable. Vural stated that he was forced to crawl on the floor even to reach the toilet. He added that guards continuously tortured him, leaving bruises on his feet and hips.
Vural also said that a prison official named Öznur came to his ward and threatened him with death and said: “For us, it is very easy to kill a Kurd here. We would kill you and make it look like an accident. We have done this before, and no investigation was ever opened against us.” In the conversation, Vural stated that the torture against him was intensifying, that he had been attacked in his ward by guards, and that this was a planned assault inside the prison. Vural called on the public not to remain silent and to show sensitivity to what he is going through.
