The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a statement that it thwarted a suicide attack by ISIS mercenaries in Raqqa.
The statement said: “At approximately 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, 31 August, our SDF forces successfully thwarted a suicide attack carried out by a terrorist cell suspected of belonging to ISIS. The attack targeted one of our military points in the northern countryside of Raqqa.
During direct clashes with the terrorist cell, one of the terrorists was wounded and subsequently detonated his explosive belt. Our fighters managed to eliminate the second terrorist in the course of the engagement.”
The statement added that three of its fighters “sustained minor injuries while repelling the terrorist attack. They received the necessary medical treatment and are in a stable condition.
Our SDF forces reaffirm their high readiness and their continued pursuit of ISIS cells and other terrorist organizations, while confronting all attempts to undermine security and stability in the regions of Northern and Easterb Syria.”
