The Human Rights Organization of Eastern Kurdistan shared new information on recent acts of repression and violations committed by the Iranian state against Kurds.
According to the statement, religious teacher Loqman Amini was sentenced to three years in prison and permanently banned from wearing religious attire on charges of “disrespect.” Amini, who had previously been detained multiple times, was punished by a decision of the religious teachers’ unit in Tehran.
The statement noted that the repression against teachers continues systematically. On 28 August, four members of the Teachers’ Union in Sanandaj (Sine), (Loqman Afzali, Salah Mirzaei, Majid Karimi, and Nasrin Karimi), were summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence of Iran, where they were subjected to torture during interrogation. The teachers were targeted for participating in a demonstration in support of their dismissed colleagues.
Peyman Naderian, a 22-year-old from the village of Dernaxe in Meriwan, was detained without a court order and taken to an unknown location, on 27 August. Similarly, Mohammad Parooze from the village of Ney in Meriwan was also detained. It was reported that Parooze has special needs and is the father of three children. The fate of both citizens remains unknown.
Meanwhile, it was reported that political activist and prisoner Rafiq Salimi’s health has deteriorated in Sanandaj prison due to torture, but the prison administration has not permitted medical treatment.
Salimi was detained without a court order in 2022 and subjected to 50 days of torture during interrogation by intelligence officers. He was later sentenced to nine years in prison on charges of “acting against national security.”
