The Initiative for Freedom for Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Syria and the Syrian Lawyers’ Initiative to Defend Abdullah Öcalan announced that they have collected more than 800 signatures within ten days in support of a request to visit Öcalan.
Both initiatives had declared on 20 August 2025, that they were launching a signature drive as part of the campaign “I Want to Visit Ocalan.”
According to the organizers, the petition gathered support not only in North and East Syria but also in the regions of Latakia, Tartus, Sweida, Homs, Aleppo, and Damascus. Participants included politicians, lawyers, academics, doctors, intellectuals, tribal leaders, community figures, activists, and artists.
Ferzende Munzur, spokesperson for the Initiative for Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan in Syria, stated that between August 21 and 30 they collected over 800 signatures.
Both initiatives announced that they will hold a press conference on September 1, World Peace Day, to present the results of the campaign.
