Fabriano City Council member Marta Ricciuti announced that the decision was taken to honor the women’s struggle for civil rights and social justice. The resolution, proposed by the Committee on Gender Equality, was unanimously approved by the council.
In a statement on social media, Ricciuti said: “The granting of honorary citizenship to Pakshan Azizi, Sharifa Mohammadi, and Warisha Muradi was unanimously approved by our council. These women have been sentenced to death for their peaceful activities defending women’s and workers’ rights.”
Ricciuti stressed that honorary citizenship was not merely a symbolic gesture, but also a way to amplify the voices of those fighting for freedom and human dignity worldwide.
She added that the move was intended to increase international pressure to halt executions and to push Iranian authorities to reverse their decisions. “Freedom of thought and expression is not only a right, but also a powerful tool of resistance and solidarity. Silence, on the other hand, is a form of complicity,” Ricciuti said.
