In a written statement on Friday, the Media and Communication Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) reported that the Turkish army’s attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) continue despite a unilateral ceasefire declared by the now-dissolved PKK and talks for a political solution to the Kurdish question.
Providing details of the attacks in the regions controlled by Kurdish guerrillas, HPG stated the following:
“On July 24, our tunnel facilities in the Sinînê Resistance Area in Xakurke region were attacked four times by explosive-laden drones.
On July 25, 27, 28, and 30, the Berê Zînê Resistance Area in the Xakurkê region was bombed 22 times with heavy weapons, cannons, and mortars.
Between July 24 and August 3, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed 32 times with heavy weapons and mortars.
Between July 24 and August 7, reconnaissance activities were carried out by drones, UAVs, and UCAVs over Zap, Metîna, Xakurkê, Garê, and Qandil regions.
Between July 24 and August 7, road construction activities for occupation purposes continued in the Zap, Metîna, and Xakurkê regions.
On July 23, 24, 26, 27, and 28, a call for surrender was made to our forces in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region.”
