‘Freedom for Öcalan’ advertisement in Swiss newspaper
In this week’s issue of WOZ, a well-known Swiss newspaper with a circulation of around 104 thousand, an advertisement demanding freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been published.
The article of Woz newspaper highlighted that Abdullah Öcalan dedicated his life to peace, democracy, and the resolution of the Kurdish question, even in spite of complete isolation.
The advertisement included the following:
“Abdullah Öcalan, the PKK’s founder, was kidnapped from Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, and taken to Turkey on February 15, 1999. Öcalan has been imprisoned in Imrali prison under strict isolation since then. He dedicated his life to peace, democracy, and the resolution of the Kurdish question. During the long-standing conflict with the Turkish state, Abdullah Öcalan announced a unilateral ceasefire agreement, which provided many constructive solutions. During his detention in Imralı jail between 2012 and 2015, he became the symbol of long-term peace and democracy in the Middle East.
Öcalan is not just a powerful political figure, but also a leader who pushes for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question and a political actor who may contribute to the region’s democratization. Öcalan is the founder of the democratic confederalism project that is now being developed in Rojava, and he represents a democratic and peaceful solution to the region’s turmoil and catastrophe.
While it is well known that the Turkish state is behind the current chaos and escalation of the Middle East problem, we believe that Abdullah Öcalan will have a significant effect in resolving this chaos. The freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and all political prisoners will provide a significant contribution and value in this regard.”
