Internationalist march for Öcalan’s freedom continues despite police intervention

The Internationalists marching from Frankfurt to Saarbrucken under the motto “Freedom for Öcalan” spent Monday night with Kurdish families in Bensheim.

In a press statement in Bensheim, the internationalists condemned the attack on the activists participating in the long march in France. The internationalists stated that the attack targeted the Kurdish people in the person of the young activists and criticized the French security forces who paved the way for the attack. The internationalists said that they stood by the Kurdish people against the attacks.

The activists came together in the morning and set off towards Manheim at 09:30.

During the march, the German police intervened with the protesters. Two internationalists, an American and a Thai, who were among the activists monitored by a police helicopter, were detained on charge of “insulting the police”. While both internationalists were banned from participating in the march, a fine of 1500 Euros was requested for their release. As the lawyers objected to the measure, the police kept the protesters waiting in the rain for a long time.

The march resumed after the objections of lawyers yielded a result.

The march will continue on Wednesday from Mannheim towards the city of Ludwigshafen-Bad-Dürkheim. On the fourth day, the activists will walk 27 kilometres.

At the last stop of the fourth day, internationalists will go to the city of Homburg/Saarland by public transportation, where they will spend the night with families.
