Kurdish Red Crescent holds annual conference in Germany

The annual conference of the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê) took place on January 29 in Troisdorf, Germany. The branches of the Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, England, Japan and Norway and the Roja Sor branches of Austria, France and Switzerland attended the conference.

“Millions of people are resisting in order to survive attacks, civil wars, natural disasters, poverty and diseases in Kurdistan and the Middle East. The occupying forces in Kurdistan have left the people face to face with poverty, unemployment and hunger. Apart from the repressions and attacks of the occupation forces, the corona virus has hit the people of the region. For this reason, the number of people in need of help is higher than ever before,” Dr. Rojvan Bilgin, head of the Heyva Sor in Germany, said in the opening speech.

Bilgin stated that a large number of people have been forced to migrate and are in need of shelter and food, referring to the ongoing refugee influx towards Europe.

Bilgin underlined that Heyva Sor and Roja Sor are the only Kurdish institutions that carry out relief work in all parts of Kurdistan without exception.

During the conference, the activity report of the past year was read out and a video was screened that included plans for activities planned for 2022.

During the debates, the participants proposed that humanitarian activities should be increased in 2022. Two main points were emphasized in particular: increasing the number of members and developing joint projects with international institutions.

The new term activity planning was announced at the end of the conference.
