Farewell to political prisoner who died after 30 years in jail

The body of Mehmet Hanefi Bilgin who died in the Bolu F Type Closed Prison was taken by his family from the Karşıyaka Cemetery morgue in Ankara to Bingöl where dozens of people gathered to bid him a final farewell.

Bilgin’s body was then buried in the Cumhuriyet Cemetery after a religious ceremony in the Genc district under an intense police blockade.

Apart from Bilgin’s relatives, members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Bingöl and its surrounding districts, parliamentarians and numerous other people attended the funeral.

Bilgin had 5 months left before completing his sentence. He had suffered a heart attack 3 years ago.

The prison administration claimed that he died of a heart attack.
