No safety for prisoners in Tekirdağ

The prisoners held in Tekirdağ High Security Prison shared information with their lawyers about right violations and lack of safety in prison, and remarked that Vedat Erkmen who suspiciously died in Tekirdağ F-type Closed Prison on 19 December 2021, contrary to the claims, did not commit suicide.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Remziye Tosun, Serpil Kemalbay, Dılşat Canbaz Kaya, Şevin Coşkun, Hüseyin Kaçmaz, and Pero Dündar applied to the Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Parliament (IHIK) to investigate claims of right violations in Tekirdağ Prison. Besides, HDP Deputy Abdullah Koç submitted an investigation proposal while HDP deputy Ayşe Sürücü submitted a parliamentary question to be answered by Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül.

According to the application submitted to the IHIK, the prisoners in Tekirdağ, against their will, were settled into the cells covered by wire fences, where heaters did not work and drains were blocked. The prisoners told their lawyers that they are concerned about their lives, and want the public opinion to know that they will never commit suicide. They said that Vedat Erkmen has not committed suicide.

Torture by warders

Yasin Eneç, one of the prisoners in Tekirdağ, were tortured by warders on 17-18 December 2021, the application said. Eneç reported that there is no safety in prison, and that “he will not stop the death fast” if he is not transferred to another prison.

The application emphasized that lawyers saw evidences of torture on Eneç’s body, and their complaints were not accepted.
