Prisoners’ families reach day 15 of their Vigil for Justice

The Vigil for Justice, launched by the prisoners’ families at the Van Bar Association, continues on its 15th day. Two more families joined the vigil. STAR Women’s Association visited the families’ vigil to express their support for the action. Dilan Kunt Ayan, President of STAR Women’s Association, who listened to the demands of the families, said that they are humanitarian demands in terms of fundamental rights and freedoms.

Support for the resistance

Rojbin Bor, a member of the STAR Women’s Association, said that they support the vigil action initiated by the mothers and added: “Fundamental rights and freedoms have been trampled upon in four parts of Kurdistan. We saw this clearly with the suspicious death of Garibe Gezer. We saw the racist attack at the funeral of Aysel Tuğluk’s mother. We stand by the resistance carried out by the mothers.”

The mother of prisoner Nejdet Abi, Meryem Abi, said: “My son was arrested as a result of a tip-off. He is in Van High Security Prison and was sentenced to 45 years. My son is ill. He has a stomach problem. As a mother, I am here too. We don’t want dead bodies to come out of prisons anymore. It is persecution. We want justice and equality. Let them release our children.”

Zehra Abi, the mother of Prisoner Hisyar Abi, also said: “My son has been in prison in Malatya for 9 months. As a mother, I call out to everyone. I invite all the families of prisoners here. Let them open the doors of prisons, we don’t want any mother to cry anymore.”
