Bloque Nacionalista Galego approves motion in solidarity with Kurds
The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG – Galician Nationalist Bloc) approved a motion at its Congress on Sunday in support of the HDP.
The HDP Europe Representative, Devriş Çimen, was among the international guests invited to the BNG congress.
The motion said: “We stand in solidarity with HDP which is under systematic repression. This is a great threat to fundamental freedoms and the rule of law in Turkey as the HDP is the 3rd biggest and 2nd largest opposition party in Parliament with its 13% vote and nearly 6.5 million popular votes. These politically motivated repressions and attacks against the HDP have systematically increased since 2015. The HDP has still been continuously and increasingly targeted by the Turkish authorities.”
Reminding that “the HDP’s closure trial leads to a ban on nearly 500 HDP politicians. In addition, the Kobani trials have 108 defendants, 20 of them in prison”, the BNG said that “both lawsuits are improper and unreasonable. Therefore, we do not accept such prosecutions!”
The motion underlined that “the HDP is essential and a must to politics in Turkey and strongly believe that HDP’s participation in Turkey’s democratic institutions is a basic way to make Turkish society more inclusive and create a positive outlook leading to a peaceful settlement of the Kurdish issue.
We stand in solidarity and call on the Turkish authorities to immediately stop all ongoing politically motivated trials against the HDP and release all HDP officials, including MPs and elected local councilors, co-mayors. Freedom for all HDP and other political prisoners in Turkey, especially Abdullah Ocalan, who plays a role as the main interlocutor for the solution of the Kurdish issue, which we have seen during the dialogue and peace process in 2012-2015.”
The motion also welcomed the recognition of the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria by the Catalan Parliament and added that it “is a right, important signal and we as the Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) support this.”
