KON-MED calls for participation to Long March

This year the Meşa Dirêj” (Long March) organised by the Kurdish youth movement for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan will take place from September 11th to September 16th. The umbrella organization KON-MED sees the initiative as a valuable platform to draw people’s attention to the situation in Kurdistan as well as to Abdullah Öcalan and calls on the Kurdish community to participate. The march will cover the route from Aachen to Cologne.

KON-MED the isolation of Öcalan as an attempt by the Turkish state to isolate Kurdish society as a whole. Because the so-called Imrali system has long been determining the pattern of action in politics, and dealing with Öcalan is the yardstick for dealing with the Kurds, his efforts for peace are perceived as a threat.

KON-MED said: “Imrali is the coordination center of the war in Kurdistan. The ruling power bloc made up of AKP and MHP insists on fascism as a concept of annihilation of the Kurdish people and wants to emerge victorious from this war by isolating Abdullah Öcalan.”

The way the Turkish state deals with Abdullah Öcalan has always been regarded as a yardstick for dealing with the Kurdish population. If the state tightened the severe conditions of detention, this is directly reflected in tightened restrictions on society. The fact that Kurds do not want to accept a life without Öcalan has been underlined by the campaigns under the slogan “You cannot darken our sun”. Today the wave of resistance continues with the offensive “It’s time for freedom”.

“This global isolation system that is imposed on Öcalan affects all people who stand up for freedom and democracy,” said KON-MED, adding: “For us, opposing Öcalan’s isolation is one of the most essential things in the modern struggle for freedom and democracy. The Imrali system must be demolished. Fighting for Öcalan’s physical freedom is a mission that can no longer be postponed. “

Before the Meşa Dirêj begins, a meeting will take place in Cologne today.
