Ten Kurdish activists are currently in custody in Germany

According to the Cologne Legal Aid Fund for Kurds in Germany, AZADÎ e.V., ten Kurds are currently in custody in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Eight of the activists are in custody because appeal proceedings are still pending or because they were recently arrested. Two Kurds are in prison serving a final sentence. The proceedings of another activist, who is spared from custody for health reasons, will presumably open at the end of the year or beginning of 2022 before the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Koblenz.

The trial of Mustafa T., who was arrested in December 2020 and accused by the Munich Public Prosecutor’s office of being a member of the PKK, is expected to begin before the Munich Higher Regional Court in October.

The PKK trial against activist Kamuran Y. Vesek has been going on at the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court since October last year. After the “summer break”, the procedure will resume on 7 September in Stuttgart.
