Artillery attacks target the surrounding area of Ain Issa camp

The northern Syrian town of Ain Issa is once again the target of artillery attacks by the Turkish army and its jihadist auxiliary forces. Since late afternoon, the surrounding area of the refugee camp north of the city as well as the nearby village of Muallaq (ku. Muelek) have come under fire.

Earlier, the village of Khalidiya (Xalidiyê), located to the west of Ain Issa, and points along the M4 highway were bombed. No information is yet available on the effects of the attacks.

Ain Issa is located south of the Turkish occupation zone and is strategically important as a link between the self-governing regions of Euphrates and Cizîrê. For years, the city has been in Turkey’s crosshairs and has repeatedly been the target of intense waves of attacks and attempted occupations. The attacks aim to wear down the population and drive them to flee. Many people have already left the city.

Massacre in Ain Issa

In the early hours of August 4, Turkish artillery destroyed a house in the village of Safawiya, east of the city. A 54-year-old man and three of his children were killed. The mother and another child were injured.
