People throw stones at Russian patrol in Til Temir

In Til Temir, local residents have pelted a Russian patrol with stones, reported the North Press Agency. On Sunday morning, artillery attacks by the Turkish occupation forces have again hit villages surrounding the northern Syrian town. More than ten mortar shells and artillery shells hit the Assyrian villages of Tel Tawil and Tel Karabit in the west of Til Temir. The protest of the population of Til Temir is also directed against the interruption of the water and electricity supply. Water has long been used by the Turkish state as a weapon against the autonomous region of northern and eastern Syria. Since Tuesday, there has also been no electricity due to the Turkish attacks. Maintenance work on the power line in Tel Karabet had to be suspended because of the permanent attacks.

Russia is blamed by the population for the continued attacks by the Turkish army and its jihadist proxies because the country acts as a guarantor power for the ceasefire in the region negotiated in October 2019. Already on August 19, a sit-in blockade took place in front of the Russian base in Til Temir. A few days earlier, residents of the town of Zirgan (Abu Rasen) stopped a Russian patrol and condemned the silence on the Turkish bombardment, in which more than 50 shells were fired, killing a woman and a child and injuring dozens. A few days ago, protests also took place in Kobanê in front of a Russian base.

In Til Temir, the military council’s communications center was bombed by Turkish drones last week. Four SDF members, including YPJ commander Sosin Bîrhat, were killed.
