90 percent of Covid places in Van hospitals are full

Van is one of the cities registering an increase in cases of coronavirus. While the occupancy rate in the pandemic hospitals in the city has reached 90 percent, the occupancy rate in the intensive care services is around 60-70 percent. Van-Hakkari Medical Chamber President Hüseyin Yaviç evaluated the fight against the epidemic in the city and said that the only weapon in the fight against Covid-19 is the vaccine.

Doctor Yavic said that the Delta variant is the major responsible for the increase in cases. Stating that social immunization should be provided to prevent the pandemic, Yaviç said: “The number of cases, which was 30 per 100 thousand before, has exceeded 200 per 100 thousand today.”

The doctor said that we are witnessing the fourth wave in the pandemic and added that working in crowded places, not taking epidemiological data seriously, as well as the inability to identify contacts and the lack of financial support for the public were factors in the increase of cases.

Doctor Yaviç added: “When we look at the vaccination rates, we see a great disparity in vaccination rates. In the West, it is higher, but unfortunately it is lower in the East and Southeast. In Van, the first dose vaccination rates are still around 60 percent. The rate of people who have received the second dose, however, is around 30-35 percent.”
