Umer: Opening Autonomous Administration office in Geneva important step

The Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria opened a representative office in Geneva on 9 August. Calls continue to be made for the official recognition of the Autonomous Administration, which accelerates diplomatic work.

Executive Council co-chair Mezlûm Umer told ANHA that “the opening of an Autonomous Administration representative office in Switzerland is an important achievement for the peoples of the region. The Autonomous Administration project proved that the SDF, which destroyed ISIS, serves to solve the Syrian crisis. The diplomatic work carried out by the Autonomous Administration in this sense is extremely important.”

The opening of the representative office, said Umer, is also a political success of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD), and added: “The MSD, which is working for the recognition of the Autonomous Administration in the international arena, also played a role in achieving this result. These steps are important for the end of the Syrian crisis, which is the common goal of us all.”

Pointing out that the representation in Geneva will be the voice of the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria, Mezlûm Umer said: “This legal representation will also lead to the diplomatic work between the Autonomous Administration and the Swiss government. Diplomatic work is not limited to this. The MSD and the Autonomous Administration carry out important diplomatic work around the world. The meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron was part of that. The Autonomous Administration is the solution to the Syrian crisis. For this reason, there is important work being done for the recognition of the Autonomous Administration.”

Umer added: “The diplomatic relations established are the success of both the Autonomous Administration and the MSD. The international recognition of our democratic project will be a great hope for the end of the crisis. Governments claiming to be democratic should look at the attitudes of the countries where the Autonomous Administration has opened representation offices and take a step to establish relations with the Autonomous Administration.”
