AKP people chuck 150 thousand TL around during the flood tragedy in Van

For over a month, the province of Van and its surrounding districts have been dealing with the flood crisis. Nearly a thousand animals were killed in the flood catastrophes that occurred in the districts of Başkale, Özalp, Saray, ÇaldIran, Erciş, and Gürpınar, and 400 buildings were submerged. However, the governor, district governor, and AKP deputies, who were expected to tackle the flood disaster’s concerns, disputed with people wherever they went.

‘YOU ALL GAVE AN INTERVIEW TO THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION’S TELEVISION; ASK THEM FOR HELP’

When district governor and trustee Abdülkadir Çelik visited the village of Y. Balçıklı in Özalp, he responded to the villagers’ reactions as to “Why don’t you declare this place a disaster area?” by saying “Last week, you all gave interviews to the terrorist organization’s television, ask them for help.” Following Mugger Çelik’s remarks, the villagers left the open-air assembly and protested Çelik and AKP members.

A similar incident occurred in Çaldıran as well. AKP Van Deputy and Central Executive Board Member Osman Nuri Gülacar, who visited flood-affected villagers in the Osmanlı village of Çaldıran, responded to the villagers’ reactions “Have you only just arrived, what’s the point of coming so belatedly?” and responded with a mind-blowing answer: “If you’re voting for HDP, let HDP come to help you.”

They insulted people, and they met at a dinner worth 150 thousand TL.

Osman Nuri Gülacar of the AKP, who replied in this manner to the public in Çaldıran, and the delegation with him afterwards joined the dinner organization arranged by the municipality of Çaldıran. The lunch was held under a dining tent in the district center, attended by AKP Deputy Chairman Leyla Şahin Ustan, Çaldıran trustee Şefik Ensari, AKP Van Provincial President Kayhan Türkmenoğlu, Gaziantep Deputy Eronat Oya, and AKP provincial-district managers. The supper hosted by the Çaldıran Municipality cost around 150 thousand TL. The press was not permitted to attend the event, which was attended only by AKP officials and roughly 200 AKP members. Not content with this, AKP members forbade shooting inside either.

In response to the meal provided during the flood disaster in Çaldıran, HDP’s Çaldıran Municipality Co-Mayor Faruk Demir reminded that, although the HDP won the 2019 local elections, the will of the people was usurped and AKP’s Şefik Ensari was appointed as mayor by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Expressing that it is not a humane approach for AKP Van Deputy Osman Nuri Gülacar to react to people in flood-affected villages as ‘You voted for HDP, let HDP heal your wounds, HDP will serve you,’ adding that it is not conscientious and moral to distinguish the people. “Regardless of these, it is necessary to work to heal the wounds of the society. HDP means the people and it is there for the people. If there has been a disaster, the HDP feels that pain inside and shares that pain with its people without regarding the political differences, regardless of whether the people support the AKP, MHP or CHP,” he said.

PEOPLE’S REACTION: SHAMEFUL

Demir said it was an embarrassment to serve a lunch worth 150 thousand TL in a political show at such a disaster, saying, “They could have healed the people’s wounds with the 150 thousand liras. People told them this at the consultative gathering, wishing that they spent money for the victims. Every resident there denounced the trustees and stated that they had been deprived of service. There is no service for the people and their collective interests in Çaldıran. For three years, they have usurped the municipalities. Not a single stone has been laid on top of another for the benefit of the people,” he concluded.
