Activists in Europe pay tribute to victims of Shengal genocide

The Yazidi victims of the Shengal massacre carried out by ISIS on 3 August 2014 were commemorated in Paris, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Darmstadt and Helsinki.

PARIS

The anniversary of the Shengal massacre carried out by ISIS on 3 August 2014, was marked with an action held in the Republique Square. The action was promoted by TJK-F. The demonstration paid tribute to the victims of the Yazidi genocide and called for the recognition of the status of Shengal and its autonomous administration.

 

Speaking on behalf of CDK-F, Murat Ceylan said: “The Yazidis were massacred 74 times and with them the entire Kurdish people. We know who carried out the massacre. We point the finger to dictator Erdogan and the KDP. The international powers should recognize the genocide as soon as possible and recognize the status of Shengal.”

Berivan Fırat, speaking on behalf of TJK-F, said that the Yazidi genocide should be officially recognized and the autonomy status should be granted to Shengal.

FRANKFURT

With an action held in Frankfurt, activists paid tribute to those who lost their lives in Shengal on 3 August 2014. The action, jointly organized by various women’s organizations, was held in Liebfrauenberg Square. In the speeches, special attention was paid to the genocide of the Yazidi women.

DARMSTADT

Kurds living in Darmstadt also commemorated those killed in the Shengal massacre.

A rally was held in Luisenplatz promoted by DTKM.

 

STUTTGART

TJK-E activists protested the Shengal massacre on its 7th anniversary in Stuttgart. Gathering at Schlossplatz, women lit dozens of candles in the square and displayed photographs of the brutality of the massacre.

HELSINKI

 

A meeting was also held in Helsinki to mark the anniversary of the Shengal massacre.
