Five minutes of standstill in northeastern Syria for Shengal

In the autonomous federation of northern and eastern Syria, life was stopped for five minutes in commemoration of the genocide and femicide of the Yazidis in Shengal seven years ago. This was invited by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria following a decision of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Council (MXDŞ). On the occasion of the anniversary on August 3, the Autonomous Administration demands that those responsible for the massacre be held accountable. The victory of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) over the ISIS terrorist militia in al-Baghouz on March 23, 2019, is part of the revenge for the dead of Shengal, the Autonomous Administration said.

Across northeastern Syria, commemorative events took place this morning, with silence for five minutes starting at ten o’clock local time. The northeastern Syrian autonomous administration is demanding internationally recognized status for the Shengal region and support for reconstruction.
