Hunger strike in Lavrio on day 176

A solidarity hunger strike is taking place in the Lavrio refugee camp near Athens. For 176 days, groups have been taking turns in five-day shifts in their protest. They join with their demands the hunger strike of thousands of political prisoners in Turkish jails.

On November 27, 2019, prisoners from the PKK and PAJK launched an indefinite mass hunger strike for the lifting of the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and an end to the destructive prison conditions in Turkish prisons. The hunger strike is also taking place in five-day shifts. New groups are taking over the protest every week. Prominent HDP politicians and prisoners from other political movements are also participating in groups in the rotating hunger strike against the untenable conditions in the Turkish regime’s prisons.

The hunger strike is also joined by residents of the Lavrio refugee camp in Greece. The hunger strike in Lavrio is organized by the Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ), the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) and the Kurdistan Cultural Center (NÇK). In Lavrio, the 36th group is now taking over the hunger strike.
