First group of the peace delegation arrives in Düsseldorf

The first group of members of the international peace delegation returning from Hewlêr (Erbil) today arrived in Düsseldorf and was met by dozens of people at around 1:30 pm. The second group will land at 7:35 pm.

On Sunday, 21 members of the delegation had been forcibly returned to Germany from Hewlêr. Today’s return flights are regular after the declaration of the international initiative “Defend Kurdistan” on Monday in Hewlêr. Other members of the delegation traveled to Sulaymaniyah today.

The peace delegation is international and consists of politicians, academics, human rights activists and media representatives from more than ten countries. Its members have traveled to Hewlêr with the aim of gaining a direct impression of the situation on the ground against the backdrop of the invasion by the Turkish army, which has been ongoing since the end of April, and to campaign for an end to the war and the destruction. For weeks, settlement areas have been bombed by the Turkish army on an almost daily basis. The destruction of livelihoods has already led to the displacement of more than 1500 people. In addition, as an internal Kurdish conflict threatens to escalate, the delegation would like to contribute to a dialogue between different Kurdish actors in the region.
