Murdered Kurdish businessmen commemorated

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar attended the commemoration of the businessmen, Savaş Buldan, Adnan Yıldırım and Hacı Karay who were killed two days after they were kidnapped outside a hotel in the Yeşilköy district of Istanbul in 1994. HDP deputies, provincial and district organizations, party assembly and central executive committee (MYK) members, families of Yıldırım and Karay, Saturday Mothers, Peace Mothers and many people attended the commemoration. Families left carnations on the graves and prayed for the assassinated businessmen.

FAMILIES MADE SPEECHES

Adnan Yıldırım’s daughter Özlem Yıldırım said that all politicians who caused these murders are responsible. “The crime groups under the control of Mehmet Ağar killed thousands of people using ultra nationalist discourse,” Yıldırım said. Enes Karay, son of Hacı Karay, recalled that they have been fighting to enlighten the massacres for 28 years. The families stated that the release of the perpetrators of the massacre did not surprise them, but added, “We will follow these trials to the end.”

BULDAN: KILLERS ARE KNOWN

Speaking after, HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan said, “27 years ago, on June 3, these three beautiful people, Savaş, Adnan and Hacı were murdered by the crime groups with the knowledge and approval of the state. They were taken from the Çınar Hotel on June 3. We know that those who abducted them had police IDs, vests and police radios in their hands. They took them to Yığılca district of Bolu, tortured and shot them in their heads and bodies. The dead bodies of these three people were found on June 3 on the banks of the Melen Stream in Yığılca district of Bolu.”

Regarding the allegations of state-affiliated mafia leader Sedat Peker, Buldan said that “Once again, they are playing ostrich. We must bring the state to account.”

Buldan recalled that Mehmet Ağar was acquitted following a show trial without even attending the hearings. “The state owes an apology,” she added.

WAR AGAINST KURDS

HDP Co-Chair Mithat Sancar also spoke and said, “We knew that this was an organized work of the state. It was a policy of total war against the Kurds.”

“There is only one way to heal this wound: Truth and justice,” Sancar emphasized.

“All the information, confessions and disclosures show us that the murderers and those who commit crimes against humanity no longer have the opportunity to hide. Now it’s up to us. We have to reclaim the struggle for justice,” Sancar concluded.
