Court adjourns hearing of Demirtaş in Istanbul

The fourth hearing in the case against Selahattin Demirtaş, who remains in jail, was held at the Istanbul 47th Criminal Court of First Instance on Wednesday.  Demirtaş is accused of insulting the then Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.

While the former HDP co-chair attended the hearing via the sound and video information system (SEGBİS) from Edirne F Type Closed Prison, his lawyers were present in the courtroom.

Demirtaş pointed to the atrocities in Cizre regarding the period in question.

“What do you want from us? Do you want us to bow down? You can chop off our heads, but we will not bend our head,” Demirtaş said.

The court board decided to request all the files in which Demirtaş stands trial in Bakırköy and the Mersin 14th High Criminal Court. It also requested the CDs to be submitted to the expert, adjourning the hearing to October 13, 2021.
