Ardıl Çeşme, who had been held in the Women’s Closed Prison in Erzincan (Erzîngan), was released after 31 years of captivity. Çeşme, whose release had previously been postponed three times, was welcomed outside the prison by her family and representatives of civil society organizations.
Members of TUHAY-DER and activists from TJA were also present at the reception. After the welcome, Çeşme released a dove to symbolize her freedom and then set out for her hometown of Amed.
Ardıl Çeşme had been detained in Amed in November 1994 and, after a one-month process, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court, the unlawful judicial body of the time. During her imprisonment, she was held in various prisons and was most recently held in Erzincan Prison.
