Within the framework of the ongoing integration process in Syria, a government delegation held talks with the Democratic Union Party (PYD). The meeting took place at the party headquarters in Qamişlo and is linked to the agreement of January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian transitional government.
The delegation was led by Abbas Hussein, director of the political office of the Damascus government in the province of Hesekê. On the PYD side, participants included Co-Chair Xerîb Hiso as well as several members of the Presidential Council and foreign relations, including Kurdish politician Foza Yûsif.
According to the participants, this was the first visit by the transitional government’s political bureau to a party in this context. Xerîb Hiso described the meeting to journalists as a “new and positive step.” He stated that it was the first time in Syria’s history that such a political dialogue had taken place.
Substantively, the talks focused on Syria’s political future, social diversity, and the legal safeguarding of rights. Hiso emphasized the need for a new constitution and legal regulations that would enable political actors to carry out their work freely.
Questions regarding future elections were also discussed. According to Hiso, special committees are already working on the country’s political future. An election commission is expected to announce further steps soon. In addition to political topics, the situation of hostages and prisoners was also addressed. Hiso stated that discussions had been held with families and that the release of prisoners is being considered.
Representatives of the government commission described the meeting as part of a broader process. The aim is to develop a new political culture based on dialogue and the participation of all segments of society.
