Latif Fatih Ferec: National unity is every Kurd’s dream and goal

In an interview with ANF, writer, journalist and political observer Latif Fatih Ferec drew attention to the importance of national unity among the Kurdish people. Emphasizing the need for Kurds to overcome fragmentation at the current stage and for closer relations among the four parts of Kurdistan, Ferec stated that the painful experiences caused by Anfal, Halabja and other massacres should serve as a foundation for understanding the importance of Kurdish unity.

‘National unity is every Kurd’s dream and goal’

Latif Fatih Ferec stated that after the long history of fragmentation and division in Kurdistan, national unity has become one of the most fundamental dreams and goals. “Overcoming this stage is not only possible by forming a political structure, but also by understanding each other’s pain and establishing empathy,” he said.

The writer emphasized that the Kurdish people should be aware of one another across the four parts of Kurdistan, and this shared sense of belonging should form the basis of future steps. He also said, “The unity of Kurdistan was seen in the marches in support of the resistance in Rojava. This collective reaction stood against attacks on our people and played a major role in thwarting conspiracies aimed at eliminating the Kurdish presence there.”

‘Everyone should act on the basis of partnership and solidarity’

Ferec strongly criticized the history of internal conflicts, stating that this situation over the past 60–70 years has caused great harm to Kurdish society, and said, “I believe this period must be completely left behind and that everyone should act on the basis of partnership and solidarity.”

Latif Fatih Ferec stated that, contrary to expectations, the new generation is strongly committed to Kurdish identity and patriotism, that the level of national consciousness is high, and that the resistance in Rojava proves this reality. He also called on the media, education, and social institutions to play a role in strengthening the national consciousness and elevating the spirit of unity.

‘We must learn from painful experiences’

Ferec stated that in order for Kurds to draw a clear roadmap for the future, there is a need for research centers that will evaluate history and the current situation. He emphasized that political forces, despite their differences, should not see each other as enemies and should elevate the sense of patriotism.

Latif Fatih Ferec concluded: “Painful experiences such as Anfal and Halabja should be a source for understanding the importance of national unity in order to build a common and secure future for the Kurdish people.”
