Women demanding freedom for Öcalan reach Gemlik

Women who set out from many cities in Turkey and North Kurdistan have reached the Turkish district of Gemlik in the Bursa province in northwestern Turkey. The port district has connections to the prison island of Imrali, where Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has been imprisoned since 1999.

The action is organized by the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) and is aimed at demanding freedom for the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The groups of activists who set out from several cities in Turkey and North Kurdistan have arrived in Gemlik.

Wearing aprons with the inscription “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom), the women are waiting for the arrival of the group coming from Istanbul to start the planned march.
With the arrival of the women coming from Istanbul, the march is expected to begin at 13:00.
