The Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad – TJA) organized the Gemlik march to demand freedom for Abdullah Öcalan. The slogan of the march is “It is women’s time, the time to meet freedom and the free leader”. Many women from three districts of Istanbul departed by bus for the Gemlik district of Bursa.
Women gathered at the Kuleli stop in the Yenibosna neighborhood in the Bahçelievler district, and set off. Accompanied by ululations and applause, the women frequently chanted the slogans “Bijî Serok Apo,” “Bê Serok jiyan nabe,” and “Jin jiyan azadî.”
Another meeting point was in front of the Istanbul Provincial Organization building of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party). In the early hours of the morning, many women gathered there. The women then set off toward Gemlik chanting the slogans “Jin, jiyan, azadî” and “Bijî Serok Apo.”
In the Kartal district, the meeting point was Neyzen Tevfik Square. In this branch of the march, DEM Party Istanbul Co-Chair Arife Çınar and DEM Party Istanbul Women’s Assembly spokesperson Kamile Kandal also took part. The women set off accompanied by the slogan “Jin, jiyan, azadî,” ululations, and songs.
