Mosul Governor Abdulqadir Dakhil stated in a press release that work has started to open three mass graves located in the Hermat and Misharifa districts of Mosul.
He noted that the graves contain the remains of peshmerga fighters, Yazidi Kurds, and Mosul residents who were killed by ISIS militants around ten years ago.
The statement emphasized that the presence of people from different ethnic backgrounds in the mass graves demonstrates the scale of the crimes against humanity committed by ISIS.
Abdulqadir Dakhil added that the local administration is supporting all the needs of the relevant teams and that DNA tests will be conducted by the Mass Graves Directorate.
According to the statement, a funeral and burial ceremony will be held in Mosul for the remains recovered from the mass graves.
