13 detained in the investigation into the death of Gülistan Doku

Detention orders were issued for 13 people across seven provinces, within the scope of the investigation into Gülistan Doku, a university student who disappeared in Dersim six years ago. Among those detained is Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of Tuncay Sonel, who was the governor of Tunceli at the time.

As part of the investigation, simultaneous operations were carried out in several cities, especially in Istanbul, and it was reported that Mustafa Türkay Sonel was detained in Istanbul.

Gülistan Doku, a student at Munzur University, disappeared in Dersim on January 5, 2020. Despite search efforts carried out since then, she has not been found.

While the family and the public have long criticized the lack of an effective investigation, the case has repeatedly come back into the public agenda over the years. In particular, the name of Mustafa Türkay Sonel, reported to be the last person Doku spoke with before her disappearance, has frequently been the subject of public debate.
