The co-presidency of the KCK Executive Council issued a statement to congratulate Nizar Amedi, who was elected president of Iraq.
The statement said: “We congratulate Mr. Nizar Amedi on his election as President of Iraq and extend our best wishes for his success. We hope that this election will bring benefits to Iraq, to the Kurdish people and the region in general.
Kurdistan and the region of the Middle East are going through a critical period. Mr. Nizar Amedi assumed a significant role during such a critical time. Being elected to such a position entails great responsibilities. Iraq faces significant challenges. The conflict, power struggles, and rivalry over interests in the Middle East are further exacerbating Iraq’s problems.”
The statement added: “The Kurdish people also face their own challenges and have expectations for solutions. As a result of a long process and great sacrifices, the Kurdish people have achieved significant social, political, and organizational development. Today, the Kurdish people have become the most organized and politically active people in the Middle East and the most dynamic force for democratization. A democratic political solution to the Kurdish issue will also contribute to resolving the region’s problems.”
The statement continued: “For the key to resolving both Iraq’s and the Middle East’s problems lies in democratization. It has been sufficiently proven that only through democratization can the region’s problems be overcome, and that no other methods will bring a solution. Denial, assimilation, nationalism, sectarianism, and authoritarianism—which have led to war, conflict, and immense suffering—have only exacerbated these problems. The way to overcome this is through democratization, and this is the fundamental expectation of the region’s peoples.
We believe that Mr. Nizar Amedi will strive to advance democratization, which is the fundamental expectation of both our people and all the peoples of the region. With these hopes, we once again congratulate him on his election to this position.”
