The 32nd meeting of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) Diplomacy Committee was held at its headquarters in Brussels with the participation of representatives from several Kurdish parties and institutions. The meeting began with a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives in the Kurdistan freedom struggle.
KNK Executive Council member Nilüfer Koç delivered the opening speech regarding the purpose of the meeting, stating that it is necessary to build national unity in order to bring Kurdish parties and organizations together following the war in Rojava and the attacks against Iran.
For this purpose, meetings have been organized in many places and countries. The KNK meeting on Sunday was attended by representatives from all four parts of Kurdistan and Europe. After the election of the commission, representatives from each part of Kurdistan delivered speeches.
KCK Executive Committee member Zübeyir Aydar said: “The process initiated by Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) has reached an important stage; it needs to be given a legal framework. Although not at the desired level, many changes have occurred through this process. Many areas of work have opened for the organization of the people. Our aim is to set a clear path ahead and to advance step by step with a free identity. As Kurds, we are preparing ourselves for every situation. Our goal is to build peace. Our agenda and duty here are to bring Kurds together and to establish a structure encompassing all four parts of Kurdistan. The opportunities and risks are great. Iran has significantly weakened; we must prepare ourselves well. All of this is for the protection of the Kurds.”
KNK Co-Chair Ehmed Karamus stated: “There is an urgent need to create a national framework for the Kurds. No external power can provide a solution for the Kurds. This year’s Newroz in Bakur (North Kurdistan) sent a very strong message. Turkey’s politics are based on hostility; this is a state policy, and they constantly produce negative discourse. The situation can change at any moment. Strengthening the alliance among Kurds in Rojhilat is very important. This unity is decisive for all four parts of Kurdistan and must be expanded. When Rojava was attacked, we saw that the Kurdish people are truly united. This unity must be transformed into an institutional structure.”
The KNK Diplomacy Committee includes a total of 32 parties and institutions from all four parts of Kurdistan, while representatives of 23 parties and institutions attended today’s meeting. In most of the speeches, the following remarks stood out: “A national conference is important. Since the First World War, this step has held great significance for the Kurds. Today, Kurds are recognized worldwide but do not possess any official status.”
Representatives of parties and groups from all four parts of Kurdistan also took the floor. The main points emphasized in the speeches were:
“The struggle of the Kurdish people in the eastern part is not linked to the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The Kurdish people have been carrying out their own struggle for decades. Whether the current regime remains or not, this struggle will continue until their rights are secured. The protection of Başûr (South Kurdistan) is very important for Rojhilat (East Kurdistan). It has been an important gain for all Kurdish regions. This alliance among Kurds is especially significant for Rojhilat and creates satisfaction and pride among the people. In this period, common points must be highlighted.”
At the end of the meeting, the political evaluation text prepared on behalf of the KNK leadership was read in the Kurmanji and Sorani dialects.
