Over 20 people were taken into custody in Ağrı city center and affiliated districts last week, targeting people who are alleged to have participated in celebrations marking the Kurdish New Year, Newroz, on March 21.
The detainees were referred to the courthouse after the completion of procedures at the police station.
Among those brought before the court, 13 people were remanded in custody by the court and sent to prison on the allegation of “resisting the police.”
Relatives of the detainees gathered in front of the courthouse and protested the arrests by chanting slogans.
