Guerrilla units of the HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) marked Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday in the mountains of Kurdistan. As part of the celebration, the guerrillas listened to recordings of Öcalan’s voice and planted trees – a practice traditionally associated with his birthday.
The central element of the celebration, however, was the lighting of 77 torches, symbolizing Öcalan’s age. In addition, the guerrillas formed the phrase “Rojbûna Te Pîroz Be Rêber Apo” with the torches. At the end, the guerrilla forces reaffirmed their determination to continue the struggle until the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is achieved.
